Graham The Empire (GtE) is a three-piece alternative rock band from Indianapolis, delivering an electrifying sound with a modern edge.
The band’s roots began with multi-instrumentalist Graham Zebrasky, who studied classical piano and guitar from a young age and immersed himself in pop music, rock, new age, and new wave. Graham spent years recording demos and performing in various other projects (lead guitar, vocals, keyboards, production) until finally in 2017, he went into the studio to record a self-produced EP, forming the Graham The Empire moniker.
If you’ve ever thought what some of the great New Wave innovators of the early 80s (The Cars, New Order, Talking Heads) would sound like if they were beginning their career in the present, you might compare their sound to GtE. “Growing up, I listened to just about anything that sounded unique and flavorful.” says Graham. “The genre breaking artists were the ones that I gravitated to the most; the ones who were making a statement without knowing they were at the time.”
Piercing dance rhythms are at the core of GtE. In 2017, Richard Crowe joined the band to add a distinctive style to the band’s rhythm section. Then, in 2018, multi-instrumentalist and EDM producer Michael Reed (Frozen Turtle) joined the band to finally form the Graham The Empire trio.
Graham The Empire is a fantastical road trip, rife with invigorating riffs evoking a furious sound, twisting classic rock rhythms and infusing them with a modern electro-edge, dabbed with pop and EDM. Their music is a light of hope held out against long-forgotten woes, an exploration of body and mind, layering upbeat danceable vibes to a piercing, raw intensity.
